Description      

The Congress will be held at the Bologna Fiere Congress Centre, with the Pre-Congress wetlabs being held at the Veterinary School of the University of Bologna. The Wetlabs will include small and large animal topics, ranging from a stem cell & PRP workshop to locking plate wetlabs. Subjects for the Pre-Congress seminars include arthroscopy, osteoarthritis and sports medicine. The Congress Scientific Programme comprises lectures and specialist sessions, with parallel large and small animal programmes with topics ranging from minimally invasive surgery to facial trauma, evidence based medicine to elbow replacement etc while the large animal programme contains sessions on advanced imaging, biologic therapeutics, lameness diagnosis & treatment, and joint rehabilitation.

Physiovet/BVRSMA presents a one-day symposium dedicated to the rehabilitation of veterinary neurological patients. These patients represent some of those most urgently in need of the increasingly available rehabilitation knowledge and facilities in the veterinary world, yet often receive little or no treatment especially in the important early stages of their illness or injury. This symposium brings delegates from the neurological, surgical and rehabilitation fields together to learn more about current understanding, principles and techniques used in maximising the return to function of neurological patients.

Title Treatment of common fractures with pin and wire

Description      

Correctly applied pins and wire can be very successful in managing certain types of fractures. This lecture and predominantly practical based course will discuss and apply the use of pins and wires for the management of appropriate fractures. In the practical component of the course, pin and wire application of the following fractures will be taught:
* Cross pinning of distal femoral fractures
* Tibial crest avulsions - pin and tension band wire
* Medial malleolar fractures
* Trochanteric osteotomy
By the end of the day the delegate will be familiar with all these techniques and have confidence in repairing simple fractures in practice .

Title Stifle Surgery

The stifle joint is one of the most commonly treated joints in the dog. A successful surgery on this joint is reliant upon understanding and correct application of surgical techniques. This course is aimed at those delegates who have a basic general level of competence in surgery but who wish to develop their orthopaedic skills. Lectures will be followed by practical wet labs where the delegates will cover a variety of surgical procedures including:
* Lateral parapatellar approach to the stifle
* Surgical treatment of a medially luxating patella
* Lateral tibiofabellar suture for the treatment of cranial cruciate ligament disease.

Title New Horizons in Thoracic Limb Surgery

The scientific programme includes imaging of the shoulder joint, shoulder arthroscopy and management of ligamentous injuries, developmental and miscellaneous conditions of the shoulder joint, and the management of osseous neoplasia of the thoracic limb. This will be compared to shoulder joint imaging, management of soft tissue injuries and physitoherapy of the human shoulder joint. The social programme includes a tour of, and lunch & dinner at Croke Park stadium, and a tour of and dinner at the Guinness Storehouse
